Benefits of Yoga

Yoga improves physical and mental health and enhances wellbeing. 

In my classes you are encouraged to move at your own pace and be mindful of your abilities. Many practices can be modified if you have health conditions, or you can rest and follow the breath for a few minutes, or visualise yourself doing the practice.

Regular Yoga Practice can:

  • Reduce stress and physical and mental tension
  • Increase vitality and energy
  • Improve sleep ~ the ability to get to sleep and stay asleep
  • Improve spinal alignment and posture 
  • Increase flexibility, balance and strength
  • Improve attention, focus and clarity of mind
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Aide the functioning of all major organs and systems in the body such as the nervous system
  • Assist with health conditions such as anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, back and shoulder problems and chronic pain 

Mindfulness and Yoga

Regular yoga practice enables us to cultivate mindfulness - the ability to pay attention to our moment-to-moment experience with calmness, objectivity and acceptance. Over time, we are less likely to dwell on past events, or worry about future events. We become more in tune with our patterns and habits of thinking. We start to recognise the signs of being stressed or worried early on, and can more effectively redirect our attention to the here and now. Being mindful or fully engaged in the present moment makes life richer and more enjoyable.
