About the Classes

Lisa's yoga classes include:

Asanas (yogic postures)

Asanas work on the physical body, gently stretching and toning the muscles and organs, stimulating the nervous system, improving health, flexibility and reducing muscular tension.

Pranayama (breathing practices)

Breathing practices help us to control and expand the breath. Lisa teaches a range of breathing practices, including the full yogic breath and viloma. These practices calm and relax the mind and emotions and help us breathe more easily.

Yoga Nidra and Meditation

Lisa's yoga classes often include yoga nidra or at least a few minutes of meditation. Private classes can include a longer meditation practice.

Yoga Nidra is a simple guided meditation practice which promotes very deep relaxation and rejuvenation of the body and mind. For many people, half an hour of yoga nidra can be as restful as two hours of normal sleep. It is common for people to start to drift off into sleep during this practice. Over time, it becomes easier to stay awake.

Meditation involves bringing the attention to the body, the breath and sometimes to sounds or thoughts. Lisa teaches different types of meditation. Meditation can be challenging for many people. It is a myth that meditation should clear our mind. By watching our mind, its habits, thoughts, as well as our feelings, we gradually come to see that thoughts come and go. Feelings also come and go. The less we try to push thoughts away or fight with them, the more easily they pass, or their intensity dimishes. Over time, meditation can lead to inner stillness and greater concentration and productivity.
